Subject: Love That Bob!
Subject: Love That Bob!
Bob is a drone in a dead-end job barely making enough to clothe his family when he proposes an
idea to his boss. The boss let's him run with it, and, before you know it, Bob is Chairman of the Board! And his family is so flush they have a maid! Woo hoo!!!
Of course, since this silent film was made in 1928, the likelihood is that a couple of years later Bob was selling apples on street corners.

Bob Gregory is a sad schlub who is stuck in his dead end job, with no chance of promotion. After talking to his wife, decides to go to his boss with a brand new job in the business that he could do. The boss reluctantly agrees to this, and the man, almost from day 1, has absolute success in the business. Then he gets a sales team, then an increase in salary, then up the office pecking order he goes! The film goes to great lengths NOT to mention any type of business, so that, you know, this film can be transparent and shown to anyone, but I don¡¯t know, I think it would have helped. Because during the film, I kept saying, what is this guy doing that he¡¯s so successful? Also, it almost feels that this story takes place in a day, because his kids haven¡¯t aged a day..

Subject: Capitalist wannabe fantasyland
Subject: Capitalist wannabe fantasyland
Bob Gregory goes from dead end sales job to president of the board in this silent Horatio Alger Jr. type of story. Character qualities of amibiton, decision, and fairness combined with hard work, will make you a great success. Bob's wife complains he isn't making enough money and when Bob decides to look for a job with a future, she tells him to "get the boss to let you make a job for yourself." (?!?) Of course in this fantasyland the boss will listen, let you try your ideas, and reward you with promotion. Of course, the film doesn't tell you what happens in reality (or if you fail).
